PROPERTY giant Grosvenor has revealed a major push to utilise the remaining space in Liverpool’s former George Henry Lee building.
The site, in the heart of the city’s retail district, is partly occupied by DIY store Rapid, discount fashion chain TK Maxx and supermarket Tesco.
However, there is still around 40,000 sq ft vacant over five floors in the section of the complex that fronts onto Basnett Street.
Grosvenor is currently in negotiations with an unknown retailer looking to occupy two floors.
The company is looking at mixed uses for the remainder, which may include an element of residential.
Grosvenor’s Liverpool-based projects director, Guy Butler, told LDP Business: “There are some massive floorplates and we are looking at a whole range of things that could go in there.”
Mr Butler also said it was in negotiations with potential tenants for six of the seven units in the former Rapid building, in Renshaw Street.
Once the retail units are fully occupied, Grosvenor intends to put the building on the market with a price tag of £4m.
The firm acquired both the GH Lee and the Rapid buildings for free, as part of the wheeling and dealing involved in its Liverpool One project.
It took possession of the GH Lee site in a deal that saw former tenant, John Lewis, become the flagship retailer at Liverpool One.
