North West business travellers help lift Lufthansa passenger levels to new record

GERMAN carrier Lufthansa has set a new passenger record at Manchester.

It saw a 19.3% increase in passenger numbers compared with 2009.

Last year, it served 644,855 passengers on its routes from Manchester, including a substantial element of business travel by North West companies.

The most popular routes included Vienna, Mumbai, Jeddah, Berlin, Nuremberg, Beijing, Hong Kong, Delhi, Warsaw, Cairo and Moscow.

Announcing the record year, Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa’s general manager UK & Ireland, said: “Our passenger growth out of Manchester is exceptional, especially at a time when many airports are reporting a drop in overall passenger numbers for the year as a result of the challenges the industry faced during 2010.

“It proves travellers still want the added value they receive from a full-service airline. Passengers continue to take advantage of the excellent onward connections through our hubs at Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf.”
