FORMER Lewis’s owner David Thompson is considering a bid for the famous Liverpool store’s name and website domain.
Mr Thompson, who bought Lewis’s owner, Owen Owen, in 2005, said buying the store’s brand names would be a “fantastic opportunity for anyone”.
He told the Daily Post: “I am considering making a bid for Lewis’s name and website domain.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants such a famous British retail brand name.”
After a troubled recent history, the huge Liverpool department store closed last May.
Its parent company, Vergo Retail, run by Mr Thompson, went into administration.
“The Lewis’s brand has a great following across the country,” he said.
Besides its flagship and last department store in Liverpool, Lewis’s had major properties in Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester and Stoke-on-Trent.
“It is a retail brand name which extends well beyond Liverpool,” said Mr Thompson.
“However, I am still undecided about whether to bid.”
