Plexus Cotton in return to Liverpool

COTTON trader Plexus Cotton has moved back across the River Mersey from its home in Birkenhead and into Liverpool’s commercial district.

It has taken 6,000 sq ft at 20 Chapel Street, where the firm will sit alongside tenants including Fujitsu, Liverpool Football Club and Barclays Corporate.

Plexus Cotton was founded in 1990 by chief executive Nick Earlam and today operates a global network of partnerships involved in farming, warehousing, logistics and marketing operations.

It owns the largest cotton producing companies in Malawi and Mozambique, and also has substantial interests in Uganda, Zimbabwe and China.

Mr Earlam said: “We are very pleased to move to 20 Chapel Street and back to the city of Liverpool.

“The building is of a standard that allows us to achieve our goals without worrying about its functionality and we are delighted to return to the home of cotton.”

Rumford Investments’ marketing manager William Coleman said: “The cotton trade is one of the foundations upon which Liverpool was built and it is marvellous to bring the industry into the building.

“Despite the market, we achieved quite remarkable letting figures in 2010 and are delighted that we have already let over 10,000 sq ft in 2011.

“Interest for the take-up of further space is high and we hope to be announcing more lettings in the very near future.” Nearly 42,000 sq ft of office space was taken by businesses at 20 Chapel Street in 2010 which represented almost the entire total Grade A new-build available office space in Liverpool last year and 25% of the total office market share.
