Liverpool Sound City to hold sister event in Norway

MUSIC festival and conference Liverpool Sound City is to hold a sister event in Norway – and Mersey music stars will be its headliners.

The event will be held in the northern Norwegian city of Tromso next month and, like its Liverpool parent, will include a programme of gigs and a conference debating the issues facing the music industry.

Organisers hope the festival will promote the Scandinavian music scene – and will also help showcase Liverpool’s music industry to the world.

Tromso, which calls itself the Paris of the North, is the largest Scandinavian city north of the Arctic Circle. Its attractions include the world’s northernmost cathedral, university and brewery.

The headliners at the music festival will be former Rascals frontman Miles Kane, whose debut, Closer To The Trap, is out next month.

He will be joined by Liverpool electropoppers Wave Machines.

Speakers at the Norway conference will include video director Dick Carruthers, who has filmed acts from Paul McCartney and Oasis to Beyoncé and Rage Against The Machine.

Sound City founder Dave Pichilingi said: “This is a huge step for us and all part of our exciting plans for expansion.

“We strongly believe what we have achieved in Liverpool translates well in other parts of the world, too, hence working with our partners in Tromso for our first event there.

“The key ingredients of what has made us so successful will all be present: showcasing new talent alongside bigger acts who will really fire things up, getting stuck into the meat of what makes the whole industry tick and, of course, building upon the relationship we have with Tromso for future successive years.”
