MORE than 100 jobs have been saved at a Merseyside printing firm after administrators managed to sell the Character DPM Group.
Lincolnshire-based Magnadata Group has acquired the firm from KPMG, which was appointed administrator on February 24 after Character DPM suffered cash flow problems.
The firm employed 140 staff in Bootle, Aintree and Warrington and a further 35 at its Character Mailing Services subsidiary in Stockport, which ceased to trade after the administration.
Joint administrators Brian Green and Paul Flint had to make 44 redundancies on their appointment in February.
But they said today that the sale to Magnadata will safeguard about 111 jobs across three sites in Bootle, Aintree and Warrington.
Paul Flint, associate partner at KPMG, said: “We are delighted to have concluded this sale of the business and its assets – not least because we have saved over 100 jobs across the three Character sites.
“The KPMG team has traded the business over the last six weeks in order to give the best opportunity for the business to move forward.
“At times, given the prevailing economic climate, this has been problematic – however, the resulting sale is an excellent outcome and I would like to thank Character’s employees and suppliers for all their help and support over the last six weeks, and wish Magnadata Group every success in the future.”
