Nursing congress boosts Liverpool economy by £3m

THE Royal College of Nursing Congress, held at ACC Liverpool this week, is generating £3m for the city’s economy, it was claimed yesterday.

The annual event, which is being held at the BT Convention Centre for the first time, has attracted 6,000 delegates to Liverpool.

The economic impact is estimated to be £3m, based on 6,000 nurses, eating, sleeping and dining in the city for the four-day congress.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of ACC Liverpool, said: “The Royal College of Nursing expressed interest in bringing its conference to Liverpool even before we opened.

“The organisation recognised the unique combination of facilities on offer at the venue to accommodate such large delegate numbers in a city that is delivering on its potential to become a leading congress destination.

“There will be thousands of delegates utilising facilities such as hotels and restaurants.”

Paris D’Allessandro, manager of Days Inn Liverpool, the city’s newest hotel, said: “We opened our doors two weeks ago and are currently operating to 80%occupancy.”
