Liverpool John Lennon Airport enjoys strong first half of 2011

LIVERPOOL John Lennon Airport (JLA) has enjoyed its busiest first half of the year since 2008 as passenger levels continue to improve.

Last month, 492,780 people used JLA, up 5%, taking its year-to-date total to 2.53m.

That is more than 150,000 higher than a year ago, and the best since Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture. JLA’s management attributed the rise to strong growth on some routes and higher load factors.

Factors including the late Easter and the Royal Wedding bank holiday, which also spread out school holidays, contributed to a bumper April, while May and June also saw totals of around 490,000 passengers.
