A STANDARD marque for Made in Britain products has been launched with the backing of UK manufacturers and MPs.
The logo was commissioned by Prescot kitchen appliance maker Stoves, part of the Glen Dimplex group. The manufacturer staged a national design challenge which was won by Cynthia Lee, from Nottingham University.
Research by Stoves found that 48% of Brits were confused about which brands could still claim to be made in Britain, and 67% wanted an official seal of approval.
The survey of 1,000 people found that more than a third would buy British goods more often if it was easier to identify the country of origin.
Stoves chief executive Denver Hewlett said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to the Made in Britain campaign so far, with widespread interest, a mention in the House of Commons and many other UK manufactures showing their support.”
Shaun Woodward, Labour MP for St Helens, which includes Stoves’s base, is backing the campaign.
