Capita doubles contract wins and renewals income

OUTSOURCING specialist Capita delivered half year results in line with expectations today.

The business, which operates the Criminal Records Bureau offices on Liverpool’s Princes Dock, revealed a 3% increase in revenues of £1.4bn in the six months to June 30.

Adjusted pre-tax profits came in at £141.4m compared with £132.4m at the same period last year.

It also reported a doubling of contract wins and renewals in the fist six months, from £523m to £1.1bn, including a £570m deal over 15 years with financial group Zurich, a 10-year £149m contract with MetLife and a five year deal worth £100m for the DVLA.

The current bid pipeline of £4.7bn matches prospective business levels from February this year.

Chief executive Paul Pindar said today: “Against a backdrop of trading conditions which have continued to be challenging the business has progressed in 2011 and we are now experiencing strong major contract sales performance and high levels of acquisition activity.”

He said the doubling of contract wins was due to “increasingly strong demand for outsourcing across the public and private sectors after a two year period of subdued activity.”

Liverpool stockbroker Panmure Gordon said Capita’s shares “remain in buy territory” after today’s results which they confirmed “are essentially in line with expectations at the adjusted profit before tax level, with the company talking a good game for second half prospects and beyond.”
