KPMG welcomes 17 summer interns

ALMOST 20 interns will learn about the world of professional services this summer, after signing up to the Vocation Programme with North West accountant KPMG.

The paid internship will allow 17 university students in their penultimate year to experience KPMG and the different types of work that the firm undertakes for clients over six to eight weeks.

The interns will work at KPMG’s three North West offices at Liverpool’s Princes Dock, Manchester and Preston, where they will join one of the firm’s specialist business areas to gain experience on client projects.

Senior partner in Liverpool, Ian Goalen, said: “This scheme provides an opportunity for the interns to develop new skills and deepen their appreciation of commercial issues; they will be able to use this experience to enhance their skills set and employability.”

KPMG is taking on 154 students across the country and each student will be assigned a senior manager as mentor for the duration of the programme.

The work involved varies from office to office and from team to team, and typically involves being part of a KPMG team working on site at a client’s office, project work or shadowing KPMG staff from different disciplines within the firm.

Mr Goalen added: “This is a great way of experiencing first hand what is involved.”
