Facebook campaign to link school leavers and students with jobs

MERSEYSIDE students have been urged to take the “7 Day Jobs Challenge” and find work in the highly competitive jobs market this summer.

Last year, college and university leavers swelled the numbers on Jobseekers Allowance as more than forty-one thousand 18-24- year-olds in the North West and 3,890 in Liverpool signed on.

This year, another initiative can help them take advantage of opportunities by becoming a member of the 7 Day Jobs Challenge on Facebook.

They can take part by “liking” the 7 Day Jobs Challenge Page, which will host information, discussions and tips about how to get one of the half a million jobs on offer.

Celebrities including Reggae Reggae sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots and Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry will advise young people about their job search, with information ranging from how to write a CV to setting up your own business.

Sue Riley, from Jobcentre Plus, in Liverpool, said: “We know that many young people are motivated to get a job, but don’t always know the best way to go about it. By doing something each day and following the tips and advice on things like how to write a CV or set up your own business, they can get it right from the start.”

Minister for Employment Chris Grayling said: “Although times are tough, there are jobs out there, with Jobcentre Plus taking over 10,000 new vacancies every working day.”

People can take part in the challenge by following and contributing to the daily discussion tips posted on Facebook, from August 18. The website address is: http://www.facebook.com/ 7DayJobsChallenge
