SKELMERSDALE-BASED out- of-town discount retail chain Matalan is to recruit 2,300 staff across its store network to cope with demand during the busy Christmas period.
The firm said an average of 11 extra sales assistants will be hired in each of its 208 stores.
Although temporary in nature, the group, headed by former Liverpool docker’s son John Hargreaves, said it will offer permanent contracts at the end of the trading period, wherever possible.
Retail director Mike Jeans said: “We are pleased to be announcing the creation of 2,300 jobs throughout the country during the Christmas period.
“We are looking for sales assistants who focus on making sure every potential Christmas present is on the sales floor, who love to work in a busy environment, but, above all else, those who strive to keep our customers smiling.”
Mr Jeans added: “We are looking forward to welcoming new colleagues to help Matalan grow.”
