CAR maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is poised to announce a new £400m engine plant, according to weekend reports.
Claims the company was considering making its own engines emerged in April.
But it is believed JLR could confirm the development of a site in Wolverhampton this week, including an element of Government funding for the scheme which could create 2,000 jobs.
JLR currently sources engines for its models from Ford plants in Dagenham and Bridgend.
But the car maker is keen to exercise more control over components for its models as it embarks on a period of growth.
JLR chief executive Ralf Speth said he wants to add more than 40 new models to the company’s range over the next five years.
A JLR engine plant could help boost capacity at existing car plants, including Knowsley’s Halewood making the Freelander 2 and Evoque.
A JLR spokesman said he had nothing to add to the weekend reports.
