Jaguar Land Rover confirms new engine manufacturing plant

CAR maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has confirmed it will open a new engine making factory in Wolverhampton.

The £355m facility will create up to 750 jobs and will supply low-emission petrol and diesel engines to JLR’s car factories, including its Halewood plant, in Knowsley, which employs 3,000 staff making the Land Rover Freelander 2 and Range Rover Evoque models.

JLR announced the investment during a visit to its Solihull plant yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Business Secretary Vince Cable.

The plant will support JLR’s growth plans which includes launching 40 models in the next five years.

JLR chief executive DrŠRalf Speth said: “As we investŠ£1.5bn a year for the next five years on new product developments, expanding our engine range will help us realise the full global potential of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands.”

The firm employs more than 19,000 staff and supports 140,000 supply chain jobs.
