JAGUAR Land Rover (JLR) is keen to build Freelanders in China.
The car-maker currently makes the top-selling Land Rover model at its Halewood plant in Knowsley, alongside the Range Rover Evoque.
But Halewood director Richard Else vowed any new Chinese manufacturing plant would not impact on its Knowsley operation or jobs there.
He spoke about JLR’s ambitions during the latest LDP Business roundtable discussion on manufacturing, sponsored by Grant Thornton.
Mr Else said China is now JLR’s third biggest sales market, and its most profitable, drawing the question from Grant Thornton partner Neil Sturmey: “Why don’t you make cars in China?”
Mr Else replied: “Watch this space.
