MOBILE gaming firm Thumbstar Games will open a studio in Newcastle after securing significant investment from two leading games industry figures.
Liverpool-based Thumbstar, which publishes and distributes games for smartphones, already sells more than 2,000 titles in more than 100 countries.
Martin Edmondson, one of the original investors in Thumbstar when it was founded in 2008, will join the board as chief creative officer.
Meanwhile, his brother Gareth, who was managing director of Newcastle studio Ubisoft Reflections for seven years, will become chief executive.
Their investment will support the creation of a Newcastle studio to produce exclusive content for Thumbstar.
And the companys chief operating officer, Martin Kitney, said the firm was likely to recruit more staff to its headquarters in Liverpool Innovation Park as it continues to grow.
