CHESTER identity management specialist GB Group could be the focus of an Office of Fair Trading (OFT) probe.
The regulator is considering action over GB’s £11.2m November acquisition of London-based Capscan Parent which provides customer registration and address management software.
A statement by the OFT yesterday revealed it was considering whether the deal could result in a “relevant merger situation” under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.
It said, should it be found to be the case, the OFT will further consider whether that may be expected to result in a “substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the UK for goods or services that warrants reference to the Competition Commission for investigation and report.”
At the time of the deal, GB chief executive Richard Law said it had “brought together the number two and number three operators in this important and growing market of customer registration.”
