Range Rover Evoque drives up sales at Jaguar Land Rover

Range Rover Evoque

THE success of the Halewood-built Range Rover Evoque has helped drive up sales at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

Parent company Tata Motors said global Land Rover sales in November stood at 23,868 – up 38% on November last year. That growth was driven by the success of the Evoque, which went on sale in September.

Jaguar sales for the month fell slightly, but JLR’s overall global sales were up 27% at 29,183 vehicles.

For the eight months of Tata’s financial year so far, cumulative Land Rover sales were up 28% on the previous year at 150,236. Jaguar sales were down 9% at 35,195, leaving total JLR sales up 19% at 185,431.

JLR’s Halewood plant in Knowsley, which employs some 3,000 people, builds the Freelander 2 and Evoque models.

The decision to build the Evoque at Halewood secured the future of the plant and created hundreds of jobs. It is also estimated to have generated more than £1bn of orders for Merseyside suppliers
