Thin Joint wins contract with Starbucks

COFFEE chain Starbucks has chosen Liverpool-based Thin Joint Technology to support sustainable build targets in its outlets across the UK.

The provider of low- energy building products has supported Starbucks’s appointed contractor, DGT, in the specification and supply of insulation, brick, render and cladding materials at the chain’s new-build schemes.

To date, 10 outlets have been built with new insulated cladding and render systems installed, dramatically improving insulation values and containing heat more efficiently.

While each Starbucks outlet must maintain a “uniform appearance”, the use of specialist render containing organic pigments ensures that both aesthetic and build objectives are met.

By using the Thin Joint Technology systems, Starbucks was not only able to meet its design needs, but also comply with UK building regulations relating to airtightness and thermal efficiency.

Chris Hirst, director at Thin Joint, said: “We’ve been working with DGT for a while on various schemes, and they are keen to take the low-energy route where possible.

“It’s fantastic to see an international brand such as Starbucks opt for our systems, and demonstrates just how new products and methods of construction are being considered, not only to meet regulatory requirements but also environmental concerns.”
