TEDx Merseyside ‘a showcase for region’s innovators’

LIVERPOOL is to host its second TedX technology and cultural conference in three months, with a showcase for Merseyside innovators.

TEDx Merseyside, which will be held a week on Saturday, will focus on “the new futurism” and will examine innovation in art and science.

It follows TEDx Liverpool, in early November, which focused on mobile technology.

Both events are spin-outs of the annual Californian TED conference, which provides a showcase for inspirational speakers under the banner “ideas worth sharing”.

Speakers at the latest event include artist John O’Shea, who created a pig’s bladder football as part of the Abandon Normal Devices festival in Liverpool last year.

Other presenters will include Dr Karen Noble, part of the Better Births group at the University of Liverpool, aerospace engineer Ashley Dale, and Lisa Wrigley and Sharlene Squire, creators of theatre piece Every Wednesday.

The event, in Liverpool John Moores University’s Art and Design Academy next to Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, is being organised by Paul and Rachel Dunscombe.

Ms Dunscombe said: “We’re looking at the future of the human. That includes psychology, biology, design and technology.

“There are so many world-leading experts in Merseyside, but people on their doorstep don’t know they’re there.

“We’re excited we’re able to showcase what the region is doing in terms of research. Our universities are doing some ground-breaking stuff.

“We want to showcase Merseyside and the experts we have here in our universities and companies.”
