Cheshire and Warrington LEP wins £9m funding

THE Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has been awarded £8.9m to help boost economic growth.

Government Ministers have confirmed the allocation from the £500m Growing Places Fund, designed to boost economic growth by establishing the required infrastructure to enable the creation of new homes and jobs and to get stalled projects moving again.

The funding has been allocated to the country’s 39 LEPs, who will decide what to prioritise locally.

Christine Gaskell, chair of the Cheshire and Warrington LEP, said: “This award puts business people from Cheshire and Warrington at the heart of deciding how to boost our local economy.

“We have worked hard to establish real credibility with Government and this award proves that we have their trust and confidence.

“We are already working with our partners in the private and public sectors and have some great development opportunities to consider.”

She added: “We want to make sure that the schemes we back will start as soon as possible and that they will produce economic growth.

“We also want to be sure that the money will be repaid so that we have a fund that we can use to remove blockages to development.”

The funding award was part of a wider stimulus package announced by Housing Minister Grant Shapps.
