WARRINGTON Council is to work with a range of partners in a bid to access a share of £1m funding to improve town centres.
It aims to be one of the first Portas Pilots in the wake of last year’s review of high street retail for the Government by “Queen of Shops” Mary Portas.
Cllr Mike Hannon, council deputy leader with special responsibility for Warrington town centre, said: “We made the town centre one of our top priorities and our programme of quick wins has already started to bear fruit with lots more to do and see in the town.
“It’s been good to see people voting with their feet – Warrington is bucking the national trend by getting more shoppers and visitors into its town centre.
“But we have ambitious plans to do more and being one of the first Portas Pilots would help to kickstart some of those activities.”
