MPs go back to the shop floor on tour of Carillion apprenticeship centre

TWO Liverpool MPs have seen first-hand how a building company provides its apprentices with the vital skills for a successful career in construction.

Joe Benton and Steve Rotheram, the members for Bootle and Walton, respectively, toured the Carillion training centre in Aintree’s Heysham Road.

As former apprentices themselves they were keen to see what opportunities are available for young people to learn a trade.

Carillion is one of the largest employers of young apprentices in the sector with around 2,000 trainees at any one time.

Mr Benton said: “It’s clear that if we give our young people the opportunities they deserve, the ability and willingness to learn is there in abundance.”

Mr Rotheram added: “Having completed an apprenticeship in bricklaying myself and taught construction skills I know first hand the solid foundations courses like this can offer.”

Alison Valentine, training centre manager for Carillion Training Services in Liverpool, led the tour by the two MPs.
