AN ECO-friendly German company wants to bring a new camping experience to Liverpool.
Berlin-based SCUBE Parks creates what it says are a mix between a hostel and camping sites aimed at offering people a “countryside experience in the centre of a major city”.
They are situated on cycle routes and the Scubes are built of recyclable wood and glass and offer accommodation of between one and four beds.
The company, which was set up in 2010, runs a park in Berlin and will open parks in Gibraltar and Morocco this year and Barcelona, Stockholm and Warsaw next year.
But Beatle-loving boss Marius Jast has earmarked Liverpool for their first UK site because of his love of the Fab Four.
He told the Liverpool Post: “The Liverpool project will be our first park in the UK and we are in negotiations with several operators and bike companies.
“We chose Liverpool because of the great musical history of the city and because I am a big fan of the Beatles.”
He added: “Our plans for Liverpool are to create a site along a bike trail, so possibly from Liverpool to a nearby area, and create several parks along the cycle route.”
Plans could include other parks at popular tourist destinations between Liverpool and London.
Each park, of about 40 Scubes offering up to 130 bed spaces, costs around £650,000 to develop and creates up to 10 permanent jobs.
Mr Jast said: “We are in talks with several parties in Liverpool, including hotel and hostel operators, but these are in their early stages.
“We also need to find a space in Liverpool to put the park, which the hotel operators will be helping us with. I have been in contact with the council as well who will advise us on possible locations.”
He added: “We will bring more money to the local area while also linking with several local businesses.
“But, more importantly, we will build a link between Liverpool and Berlin. We will be encouraging everyone in our Berlin hostel to visit Liverpool and will be offering discounted rates.
“Local businesses in Liverpool will also benefit immensely as we will link up with bike companies to potentially set up a cycle route to a nearby town with SCUBE Parks along the cycle route. We also hope to link up with other Beatles-themed hotels or hostels in the area.
“Our aim is to bring Beatles fans from all over the world to enjoy their music in a style of accommodation which is affordable, but also vastly different from any other hostel or hotel in the UK.”
