Elsewhere on the High Street, or in Liverpool city centre at least, there doesn’t appear to be any let up in footfall at Liverpool One. Footfall, of course, is one thing. Spending is another. I have to say, though, that during my visits there, I don’t see many people without their arms full of branded bags full of purchases.
And then there’s been Mega Monday, preceded by Mega Monday Eve. These are the times this week when pre-Christmas retail frenzy hits the internet, and those who monitor these things were predicting online sales peaking at an eye-watering £16,000 a second at precisely 1.31pm on Monday afternoon.
Strange but true, according to the analysts at least.
If they are right, there seems to be a willingness to carry on shopping – hard to believe it's all been sparked by the Chancellor’s cut in VAT. Isn't it?
