Liverpool Daily Post & National Apprenticeship Service

THE Liverpool Daily Post has joined forces with the National Apprenticeship Service to launch a campaign to encourage Merseyside companies to sign up to the Government’s Apprenticeship programme.

Through our Skills for the Future Campaign, we want to create 500 new Apprenticeships in Merseyside – providing jobs and training for youngsters at a time when the economy is suffering its worst down-turn in a generation.

The NAS aims to bring about a significant growth in the number of employers offering Apprenticeships, helping to create a skilled workforce for the future.

Sue Price, North West regional director of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: "Apprenticeships are key for Merseyside’s employers and make a vital contribution to the area’s economy. If an employer takes on a 16 to 18-year-old as an Apprentice and pays their salary then the Government will fund their training costs in full.

"It’s great the Liverpool Daily Post is working with us."

Business leaders have already given their backing to the campaign. Jim Gill, chief executive of economic development agency Liverpool Vision, said: "Apprenticeships ensure companies develop the skilled workforce they require while creating opportunities for young people."
