HAYLEY ADAMSON is head of retention and upgrades for O2 UK, and is based at O2’s customer service centre at Preston Brook, near Runcorn.

She is also mother to 12-year-old kart racer Lewis and wife to Paul.

6.30am: I start my day by sorting out the family. My son Lewis is currently second in two national go-karting leagues and is going to prep his kart with my husband, Paul, after school, so I make sure they have everything they need before leaving.

6.45am:I fit in an hour at the gym to get myself energised.

8.30am:My first call of the day is a catch-up with other business area heads on our current journey of transformation. We discuss where we are and address the issues that have come to light.

9am:I have a meeting with my team, which consists directly of two senior operations managers who both have responsibility for a number of contact centre managers and business support managers. It’s our job to keep our customers happy and identify new ways of meeting their needs and improving the service they get.

10am:Next on the agenda is a meeting with my HR business partner to discuss operational issues and initiatives.

12pm:I have a one-to-one with each of my managers to talk through both operational and commercial performance to ensure they feel fully supported.

1pm:I have a working lunch. My PA, Alison, is wonderful at making sure I have a good supply of coffee throughout the day. Today she also has some photos to show me from Foxwood Special School, in Birchwood, where we have been building a sensory garden for the disabled pupils there. I’m chair of the O2 Community Crew which carried out the work and we raised £29,000 last year for the school.

1.30pm:After a quick lunch, I have a meeting with the O2 People Forum – employees who represent their 1,700 colleagues at Preston Brook – which I also sponsor.

3pm:It’s time for the first of my commercial trading calls over the next two hours with representatives from the commercial channels across the business. We review the previous week’s commercial and trading performance and new propositions that will become part of the O2 family.

5.30pm:I currently have a daily catch-up with various other business areas about the new iPhone and how things are going. It’s a very positive meeting.

6pm:I spend the last hour responding to issues which have come up today and getting prepared for tomorrow. Then I head home.

7.30pm:I take the dog – Murphy, a Welsh springer spaniel – out for a walk. He is very energetic and demands more attention than the rest of my family put together. My husband, Paul, cooks the dinner because he works from home.

10.30pm:I have a quick glance at Big Brother before getting a reasonably early night.
