Working Day: Tennis organiser hopes to find a local ace

Michelle Bennett, Northern Visions marketing manager

MICHELLE BENNETT, 31, is the marketing manager for Northern Vision, organisers of the Tradition-ICAP Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, in Calderstones Park.

The Liverpool-based sports marketing and management company also organises The Nottingham Masters and The Nordic Masters, in Oslo.

6.30am:I wake up and make myself a cup of hot water and lemon and catch up on the news and emails.

7.30am:Head into the office to catch up with our managing director, Anders Borg. He lives in Norway, and is already an hour ahead of me, so I try to speak with him as early as possible. The Davis Cup is high on the agenda as we worked with the LTA supporting their promotion to the local market.

8am:Have an early meeting – which is crucial for me as a healthy dose of caffeine gets the ideas flowing.

9am:The team arrives at the office and we get straight into planning the day ahead. Plans for the 2010 events are already in full swing.

9.30am:I write our monthly e-newsletter which is being distributed this week to all our supporters about December’s NRP Nordic Masters, in Oslo. The tournament is now in its second year and will include Robin Søderling, who made the final of the French Open this year.

11.30am:I head over to Everton to meet Rob Lyle, head of leisure at Liverpool City Council. The inclusion and development of sport programmes for children is a critical element of the work that we do. In Liverpool, we organise and operate one of the North- West's largest tennis programmes, in conjunction with LCC. Over the past eight years, we have introduced more than 35,000 children to the sport of tennis.

1pm:Back to the office. Our caterers, Pickled Walnut, come in and we discuss hospitality plans for 2010.

2pm:Continue work on our marketing material for the 2010 events. Every year we review our sponsorship and hospitality packages to ensure that we are in line with the economic climate and marketplace.

4pm:Meeting at our lawyers, Brabners, regarding contracts for players that we represent. As a growing area of Northern Vision, we feel that our community programmes and events give us an ideal opportunity to identify and nurture talent – we’re looking for a Liverpudlian Wimbledon Champion!

5pm:A brief catch-up with the volunteers and then return to my phone and email to plan and prepare for another of our events, the Nottingham Masters. This event is now in its second year and continues to grow. My aim is to make it as successful as the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament.

6pm:Off to the gym for a run.

8pm:Out for dinner with friends. It’s great to be back in Liverpool after a few years away, and the energy here is fantastic.

10pm:Quick email check and catch the news before an early night.
