A woman's right to shoes

Carrie Bradshaw famously once said: 'I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes'. Here, Jane Gallagher looks at the female obsession with footwear

Gill Fell agrees: "Shoes complete an outfit, and although I don't actually stock many shoes in the shop I always keep a few pairs aside for clients to try on with their outfits as they bring an outfit to life," says the 45-year-old owner of designer dress agency, Livi's Dress for Less, in Formby.

Gill, who also stocks new clothes, says 30 pairs of shoes sounds more like an average number.

"I own about six pairs of training shoes to walk the dogs and flats and boots too. When I get a new pair of boots I always get them heeled as they last much longer and when I have too many I recycle shoes at the agency.

"Putting on a favourite pair of shoes gives you a lift in every sense of the word."
