Jane Gallagher discovers our wardrobes are home to clothes for different occasions and in various sizes, while some are hidden away and forgotten about

HOW are you feeling today? Or rather what story is your wardrobe telling about you today?
What you wear can reveal a lot more about your personality and lifestyle than you might expect.
According to Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, a woman’s wardrobe is divided into three.
There are the “workhorses”, the everyday clothes we know will fit and flatter our shape. Then there are the more forgiving variety we wear on “fat days”, which even size zero models succumb to when they have an extra raisin or two.
And then there’s the “fantasy clothes”, the items we bought in a sale or just because we loved them and they were a size (or two) smaller than our usual. The kind of clothes Shulman says we only ever fit into once or twice a decade or after a severe bout of flu.
So could a fashion editor actually be talking sense for once?
“Absolutely,” says Liverpool-based fashion stylist Catherine Larrouy, who helps her clients edit their wardrobes.
“I think those three categories of clothes do sum up the wardrobes of most of the women I work with, even mine.”
“Most of us don’t wake up feeling gorgeous so we rely on our clothes and hair and make-up to help us.
“There are days when we feel sexy or pretty, then there are days when we want to feel safe and maybe hide ourselves,” explains the 27-year-old French-born fashion graduate.
