IT’S not often a TV series comes along whose sartorial style captures the imagination of designers and shoppers alike. In fact, the last one I can think of is Fame – off the shoulder T-shirts and leg warmers anyone?

But Mad Men, with its snappy tailoring and bold colours, has switched everyone on to the early 60s.

It’s not just the sharply-tailored suits of the Madison Avenue ad men that are winning admiration from a new generation of fans. The 60s are never left in peace for long, but shops are now heaving with structured shift dresses, cute cap sleeves and Roland Mouret-style shapes.
