MASCARAS used to be such simple things. You got a brush and a tube of black goo and slathered it on your lashes until they became long and fluttery.
But, over the last year, this make-up essential has come over all hi-tech.
We tried out three of the most advanced mascaras on the market.
Givenchy’s new Phenomen’Eyes Mascara (£18.50)
THIS mascara talks about having a revolutionary spherical head, but every time I looked at it I couldn’t help but think of a toilet brush. I also worried I was going to poke my eyes out with it. It did take a bit of getting used to, but I can’t fault the effect. Lashes looked full and separated.

Estee LauderTurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara (£27.40)
DESPITE my initial cynicism about this being a pure gimmick, I was actually pleasantly surprised with the result I got from this. It was a bit tricky to use at first, but it did give me great lashes without having to apply lots of coats.

Lancome Oscillation Vibrating Mascara (£28)
MUCH giggling ensued when this arrived in the office and I was apprehensive about using it. For all the fuss, I can’t say my lashes were actually that much more amazing.
Also, it was a nightmare to remove.
