'Garbo' Charleston'style vintage top, designed by Emma Embery
FOR designer Emma Embery, there’s clearly no place like home! Emma’s designs have been snapped up by major fashion houses like Calvin Klein, Laura Ashley and Donna Karan.
But, having worked in London and New York, Emma has come back to her roots to create exclusive and stunning pieces for the “stylish” women of Merseyside and Cheshire.
Emma, 33, from Hoylake, says: “I love it here. It’s where I grew up and it’s like I’ve come full circle.
“I love how the girls dress in Liverpool. They are confident about their style and not afraid of spending their money on quality; something that will last a lifetime.”
As Emma’s exquisite designs certainly will. Her elaborate creations are rich in lace, beadwork and stunning embroidery.
But, while she is credited with creating the “heirlooms of the future”, Emma’s artistic talents could have taken her in a different direction altogether.
The mother-of-one – son Woody is 11 months old – says: “Art was always my favourite subject, but I never wanted to go into textiles.
“I had visions that I was going to be an elaborate artist doing huge canvasses.”
But Emma was persuaded that, while at university, she should at least explore this extra avenue and her intricate and luxurious designs were immediately spotted and loved.
Her first job was designing for the textile designer studio of Vanessa Calver, in London – and her second job took her to New York!
