Duke of York hosts star-studded John Lennon memorial event in New York

THE Duke of York last night hosted a star-studded John Lennon memorial event in New York.

Love and Money, marking the life of the late Beatle, is being held at the city’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex, which is currently celebrating Lennon’s New York years as part of an exhibition.

Lennon spent a number of years in New York during the 1970s before being shot dead in the city in 1980.

Among the items on show as part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame exhibition is a bag containing the bloodied clothes worn by the singer-songwriter on the day he was shot.

It also includes hand- written lyrics and the guitar used by Lennon when he joined Elton John on stage at Madison Square Garden in 1974.

Andrew was a child when Beatlemania first took hold in the UK and the US.

Details of the Duke’s other engagements in New York have not been disclosed.

Andrew has previously received criticism over his overseas travel, being dubbed "Air Miles Andy."
