Emma Pinch looks at the fabulous fashion favoured by stars, but affordable for everyone
BELOVED of soap starlets preparing to be papped on the red carpet, Lipsy has done a roaring trade since it opened in Liverpool One in June.
Its blend of party-style catwalk designs, mid-range prices and close celebrity links makes it a magnet for girls who want to inject some high-voltage glam into their look for a Saturday night out.
The store’s high profile has been boosted by having its dresses being spotted on the backs of some of the hottest young stars like Alexandra Burke, Alesha Dixon, various Hollyoaks actresses and even Paris Hilton.
We’re told Lipsy approaches celebrities or their managers with dresses they might like, or the lucky ladies might be taken to the show room to take their pick, some even nip in and buy something themselves.
Here, Style City takes a peek ahead to see what we might see our Hollyoaks favourites snapped in this Christmas.
“We’ve kept the shoulder detail and the bandana styles from the autumn and added sequins for the party season,” says a Lipsy spokeswoman. “Asymmetric one shoulder styles are also very strong. Animal prints are holding well for us. We’re still doing studs, but not as much as earlier in the season, and where they are used they’re focused on a shoulder detail.”
Leggings are also continuing into the party season, with the addition of sequins to ramp up the glamour.
Look out for knitwear lines being added to Lipsy lines over coming months. But don’t worry, we’re talking knitwear with added glam.
All clothes featured will go into the store in November.

Make-up and hair is by Jade Ng and Christine Garrity at Barbara Daley, Northwestern Halls, Lime Street, Liverpool.
Hair stylist Christine Garrity says: “I put a coating of Aero Volume by L’Oreal on dry hair, from the roots to the ends, then blast it with the hairdryer. Then I back-comb the middle sections over the top and bring the sides back. Finally, I smooth the hair on the top. It takes about 10 minutes.”
