This fairytale fashion is frilling stuff

It’s a magical spring/ summer collection from Miss Selfridge. Emma Johnson allows herself to fall under its spell

WE ARE invited to step into a magical world of fairytales, funfairs, carnivals and the circus with the eclectic and quirky spring/summer collection from Miss Selfridge.

It’s definitely one for the romantic fashionista with prints, patterns and textures adorned with bows, ruffles, tiers, frills and fringing to create a whimsical feminine look.

Florals serve to add to the girly mood, sprinkled as they are on sequin prom dresses, poppy print tea dresses and bustier tops. Cropped jackets are nipped in at the waist and teamed with tulle tutus, straw boaters and strings of pearls. Blooms of daisies and roses are mixed with stripes, polka dots and heart prints.

Flirty gingham playsuits and candy stripe waistcoats in bubble gum and candyfloss shades are styled with marabou feather purses and polka dot platform shoes adorned with corsages.

Meanwhile, delicate 1920s- style underwear slips and Edwardian lace blouses in cream and white create an ethereal boudoir feel.

The looks also borrow heavily from vintage styles with this season’s key nude colour sitting alongside pastel perfect pistachio, peach, and dusky pink ice cream shades.

But it’s not all girly and feminine at Miss Selfridge, as trousers are still a key look. Choose from skinny combats or smart pinstripe.

The look is finished with super pretty accessories including bow bags, tasselled boots, sandals and ballet pumps.

And for those who dare, hats take centre stage with bowlers, cocktail hats and feathered headdresses.
