EVERY so often, a girl comes along that you just cannot take your eyes off. Not because she is sexy, or pretty or has a killer bod, but because there is just something about her face that you can’t quite put your finger on.

Cara Delevingne, below, left, is the latest. This time last year it was all about her older, blonder, glossier sister Poppy, but fast forward 12 months and you can't open a magazine without finding Cara's face . . . or, to put it more accurately, eyebrows, in it.

The 20-year-old, youngest of the Delevingne trio of London socialite sisters (along with Poppy, 24, there is 27-year-old Chloe), is THE girl of the moment.

The willowy blonde scooped Model Of The Year at the British Fashion Awards last year, Vogue named her the face of the autumn/ winter 2012-2013 season and she walked the catwalks for brands across the fashion spectrum, from old school – Chanel, Gucci, Fendi to newer names like Sass and Bide, Stella McCartney and Mary Katranzou.

This week, LOVE magazine, the style bible of choice for so-hip- it-hurts fashionistas, unveiled Cara as its latest cover star.

Her big-eyed, bigger- browed visage stares out from the page in an extreme close-up in black and white, daring you to try to look away. It’s difficult.

That said, Miss Delevingne is not everyone’s cup of tea.

I wish I could put into words the face my husband pulled when I showed him her picture and gave him a “what do you think?” look. It is similar to the expression I would expect were I to inform him that Rihanna had joined a convent.

Off duty Cara in her hoodie and jeans is, as my mum would say, not the sort of girl that would turn heads at a bar, but that didn't stop the Victoria's Secret bosses adding her to their army of Angels for the lingerie label's most recent runway show.

Nor did it put Justin Bieber or Harry Styles off (allegedly) chatting her up.

A colleague of mine, and she meant this in the nicest possible way (I think), refers to Cara as looking like a woodland creature.

I can see her point. There is something “off” about Cara. The eyes are a bit big, the nose slightly too small and the eyebrows bring to mind something David Attenborough would do a series on. Maybe that’s why she rocks an animal onesie so well.

And yet the whole package works. The mix of over-sized features, coupled with a kook personality – as evidenced by her penchant for posting crazy pictures of herself on Twitter and Tumblr in everything from beanie hats to baths of beans – make Cara fashion’s most wanted.

The phrase "the new Kate Moss" has been applied to many a skinny, elfin model over the past decade, but I think Cara could actually be a contender for the title.

Kate wouldn't have been caught dead with a boybander, though . . .

THE old Kate Moss has been notching up column inches herself this week as rumours swirl that Simon Cowell is wooing the Croydon clothes horse for the next series of X Factor.

She won’t be singing or judging, though. It’s claimed that Simon wants La Moss to style a special one-off Brit Pop episode of the forthcoming tenth anniversary series.

Given that the ailing talent show has about as much street cred as Cliff Richard right now, getting Kate to "Moss" up X Factor would be a stroke of genius, but she should beware the dark lord’s charm. Just ask Dannii and Cheryl . . .
