Our only bugbear was the seats, which were made of plain wood and were for some reason very uncomfortable, particularly when sat upon for more than two hours.
Swayed by the good value of the set price menu, we decided to stay for dessert. My Classic White Tiramisu (£4.95) had a good balance of creamy filling and squidgy sponge.
Mum's Cinnamon and Orange Sponge Pudding (£4.95), sat in a toasted walnut and toffee sauce, was a modern take on a traditional dish.
The crowning glory though had to be Dad's cheese platter (£5.95). He was tempted to try it by the elaborate descriptions in the menu for each variety, which included Manchego, Taleggio, Cashel Blue and Brie L'Emitage - "the brie the French eat them-selves".
It had been a thoroughly enjoyable experience - a good combination of setting, food and service. We shall certainly be going back, though we might wait until it's light enough to appreciate the view.
