Cantina Tequila Mexican Restaurant and Fiesta, Blundell Street, Liverpool _320
His only regret was that there were not more than just two soft tortillas to mop up all of the sauce.
So far so good and, as we finished our drinks, a slowdown in the service allowed us to find room for desserts.
I ordered a rather un-Mexican like Mississippi Mud Pie while my husband picked the baked banana tortilla.
They took a while to arrive but with all those carbs to digest we were glad of the break.
And then disaster. While the mud pie was a waist-thickening calorific delight, it appeared something had gone seriously wrong with my husband’s dish.
Where there should have been a full banana with raisins and cinnamon, baked in a flour tortilla and served with vanilla ice cream, sat a flat, cold tortilla, some chopped banana and a sprinkling of raisins.
The summoned waiter seemed as surprised at the dish as we were, but after a couple of visits to find out what they could do to make it better, the dish was duly taken off the bill.
It was, pardon the pun, a bit of a flat end to a hot meal but for the meatballs alone I would be willing to give it another go.
