Awaydays book jacket
THIS year’s LiveRead book group is focusing on Awaydays by Liverpool writer Kevin Sampson.
His debut novel, it is set in 1979 Birkenhead where Maggie Thatcher is still less of an issue than Lois jeans and Adidas Forest Hills trainers. For Paul Carty, 19, and his mystical, Joy Division-loving mate Elvis, life revolves around the Pack, a mob of violent Tranmere Rovers supporters. But Elvis, who loves Ezra Pound, and Carty, still getting over the death of his mother, are starting to get bored of it all.
If you’ve read the book and have any comments about it you’d like to feature in our book group video, please post them below or email laura.davis@liverpool.com
Awaydays was made into a film in 2007.
