Liverpool blues singer Lush back for hat-trick of top events

Connie Lush, Liverpool blues singer

LIVERPOOL blues singer Connie Lush has an unforgettable name and an unforgettable voice.

Alas, with busy European tour commitments, it is a voice heard too seldom in her home city.

That is about to change when Connie makes appear- ances in three of the city’s biggest events this month.

On Friday she is at St George’s Plateau for the People’s Opening concert for Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.

On Saturday she is back on stage for the other big opening event, Liverpool, the Musical at the new Liverpool Echo Arena. And on Saturday, January 19, she is back at the Arena for the Number Ones concert in which Liverpool performers sing the city’s chart-topping songs.

“Traditionally, January is a bad month for musicians so we need all the work we can get,” says Connie with a grin. “But I am thrilled to be doing these shows.”

She has been touring the continent with her band Blues Shouter where her blues style is much appreciated.

This has included a tour of France (taking in Corsica) with American singer Sharrie Williams.

“We did separate sets with our bands but got together for the finale and it worked well.”

For Liverpool, the Musical, alongside Ringo Starr and other leading Liverpool per- formers, she will be wearing a red dress and singing I Put a Spell on You inside a cage.

For the Number Ones concert she will be singing the Frankie Goes to Hollywood number Power of Love which she has already recorded for the album.
