Supercross biking thrills as new city arena turns to dirt track racing

SPEED, thrills and noise filled Liverpool’s new arena last night as some of the world’s best Supercross riders roared into action

They were competing in round two of the 2007/2008 future west ACU British International Supercross Championship.

About 2,500 tonnes of specially-selected soil was brought into the Echo Arena, Liverpool for one of its first events.

The dirt transformed the state-of-the-art venue into a 400m indoor dirt track to host the competition, which is an indoor version of Motorcross.

Crowds were treated to fast, action-packed races with high jumps and tight corners and in between races, a spectacle of dancing girls, freestyle riding and light shows.

Among the competitors was Danny Tollet, 34, from Garston.
