DANCE: The gathering of dancers and promoters known as British Dance Edition 2008 is in town filling many of the venues. Most are not open to the public but this event is. Three of the best dance groups in the UK - Russell Maliphant, Scottish Dance and Henri Oguike - show three very different dance works. Tonight, 7.30pm, Liverpool Empire. MUSIC:The five-piece Swedish band known only as Ft. and playing mod-pop is part of a package that includes Liverpool group Elle S’Appelle, The Riptides and A Silent Film. Tonight, 7pm, Carling Academy, Liverpool. Tickets £5 in advance. 0844 477 2000.

EXHIBITION: Birkenhead-born Tom Palin, top, has exhibited widely, picked up prizes and now stages this excellent show on home territory. Small imaginative landscapes, oils and larger works on show. Today, noon-4pm, View Two Gallery, Mathew Street. Free. Until February 9. 0151 236 9444.
