The Romanian version of Waiting for Godot _320
ONE of the biggest celebrations of Romanian culture in Britain is now under way in Liverpool.
Romanian Connections, a celebration of the Eastern European country’s theatre and culture, is the first event of its scale and calibre to be seen in Britain outside of London.
Romanian Connections is part of Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture celebrations and features music, dance, debate and a guest appearance at Tate Liverpool, as well as two theatrical productions by Radu Stanca National Theatre, from the historic town of Sibiu.
Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture in 2007, and this festival reflects the spirit of connections that the Capital of Culture project embodies, as well as presenting new opportunities for cultural exchange. Highlights include a concert from traditional Eastern gipsy Paprika Balkanicus tonight; The Ball, a new production by the younger generations of Radu Stanca National Theatre exploring Romania’s recent history through music and dance on Tuesday. There is a performance of Waiting for Godot on Thursday, featuring two of Romania’s most respected actors and directed by the acclaimed director Silviu Purcarete (Romanian with English subtitles).
All events take place at the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre, on Greenland Street, and tickets are £5 for each show plus £1 booking fee, available from 0871 424 4444 or online at Ticketline.
