Final chance to catch dream production

Anima by Momentum at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool

THIS weekend is the last chance to see an acclaimed physical theatre commission that has been one of the quiet highlights of 2008.

Anima, presented by Liverpool-based company Momentum, was performed in the city and toured the UK earlier this year.

It returns to where it all began for two special performances to mark the end of its run.

Based on the world of dreams, Anima explores the distorted dynamics between the conscious and subconscious, revealing the conflict and harmony within us all, disturbing, humorous, poetic and moving.

Highly visual and deeply evocative the performance uses a mix of lighting, projection and original music with Momentum’s trademark physicality.

Earlier this year, the show was described by Daily Post arts editor Philip Key as “the most astounding hour you are ever likely to spend in a theatre.”

Anima is a commission from the Liverpool Culture Company for Capital of Culture year. Momentum are Elinor Randle and Yorgos Karamalegos, who met while training on the physical theatre programme at Liverpool’s Hope Street Ltd.

Anima is their third production, following successful European tours of previous shows, Tmesis, and Memento Mori, and completes their trilogy on the exploration of life.

It is on at the Unity Theatre tomorrow and Saturday.
