Ceramic artwork fired up at Priory

A CERAMIC wall hanging, created by members of the public, is to be permanently displayed at the Birkenhead Priory.

The work has been created by visitors to an interactive exhibition at the venue earlier in the year, when potter Janet Holmes invited people to participate in the creative process by adding their own individual markings to pre-prepared clay tiles.

The event, Fired, was held over two days at the Priory in September.

Janet has now fired and assembled the wall hanging that contains nearly 70 individual efforts.

The finished work is a colourful mosaic of shapes, symbols and patterns that contrast and enhance each other. This piece then forms a lasting portrait of the unique possibilities of clay and the artist.

The wall hanging will be unveiled at a special event on Saturday from 12pm.

Janet Holmes said: “I was thrilled at the public’s response.

“My greatest hope is that everyone who contributed to the wall hanging will have discovered something of their own hidden depths and talents”.
