Chameleon home for Peace Pirates

LIVERPOOL band Xander and the Peace Pirates have previously been found playing everywhere from the city streets to the Philharmonic Hall – and now they’ve got a home.

The blues-rock purveyors of Sixties-style peace and love are now the house band at new bar Chameleon, which will be hosting live music six nights a week.

The venue, on Back Colquitt Street, adjacent to Fact, will have live jazz on Sundays, jam nights on Tuesdays and an acoustic lounge on Mondays, as well as showcasing the many talents of the Pirates.

“The Live Lounge has come to Liverpool and is going to be home to some of the best and most eclectic music on Merseyside,” said guitarist Stuart Xander, who is also music co-ordinator at Chameleon.

“We’re sick to death of hearing about how Liverpool has an amazing music scene and only ever being able to locate live music on a weekend or when some European funded event, festival or week was going on – so we thought let’s have music, cool music every night of the week, just be cause we can.”

As the house band, Xander and the Peace Pirates will be on hand every Thursday with their own blues nights to provide some soulful and bluesy classics along with original material and some special guests every now and again.

On Fridays, the Pirates become “The Number 1s Band” and play acoustic versions of number one chart hits from history.

The band – brothers Stuart and Keith Xander, Emily Rose, Etienne Girard and drummer Jake Woodward – will be known to many for their weekly radio slot Pirate Copies, where listeners ring up and suggest songs for the band to cover on Billy Butler’s Friday Radio Merseyside show.

They have also supported Buddy Guy and Eric Bibb on two separate concerts at the Philharmonic, and, in their own words, say they are “soaring and heading toward their goal of world peace and harmony”.
