LES DENNIS is to return to the Liverpool Playhouse stage in the forthcoming production of JB Priestley’s classic comedy, When We Are Married.
Dennis last appeared at the theatre in the national tour of Yasmina Reza's hit comedy, Art.
When We Are Married, the satirical, fast-paced account of the sanctity of marriage, is directed by Ian Brown, Artistic Director of West Yorkshire Playhouse, where the show opens before transferring to Liverpool on April 30.
Set in 1908 in a sleepy village, three couples gather to congratulate each other on 25 years of comfortable, middle-class marriage. As the after-dinner drinks flow, however, a shocking truth reveals that perhaps those vows weren’t as binding as they first thought.
Most recently seen in Liverpool in the Empire’s pantomime, Cinderella, starring alongside Cilla Black, Les Dennis has worked comprehensively in theatre.
He said: “When We Are Married is a wonderfully funny ensemble piece that still has a relevance.
“Herbert Soppitt is a lovely part, and for me the added bonus is that I also get to play the role in my hometown.”
Gemma Bodinetz, artistic director for the Playhouse said: “Les wowed our audiences with his consummate performance in Art in 2003 and we have been determined ever since to get him back. That time has come and we can't wait to welcome him back.”
