Jimmy McGovern / Phil Redmond gun drama given extended run

A HARD-HITTING collaboration that saw Jimmy McGovern and Phil Redmond creatively reunited for the first time since Brookside is being given an extended run.

Part of Liverpool Culture Company’s It’s Not OK programme, which aims to tackle social problems, the play has already been toured to local communities directly affected by gun crime.

Phil Redmond, creative director for 2008, said: "This is an amazingly provocative and uncomfortable play and does what drama does best – it raises the big questions about issues affecting people today.

"It cannot solve these issues alone, but it can start the conversation as to how we can solve them together.

"I’ll be doing my utmost to ensure there’s another, longer run as soon as possible."

Da Boyz was written by another former Brookside writer, Carol Cullington, with the help of young people and community groups.

It focuses on the wall of silence that surrounds gun crime.
